What Is Islam?
by Daniel Johnson

Have a piece of cake.
Go on - have a piece.

A nice thick slice...and take a big scoop of ice cream for good measure!  The yummy, moist, flavour-fest, which is the chocolate fudge creation analogy, black forest, blueberry gateau muffin is ready, and it wants YOU to eat it!

Mmmmmm pretty good, ain't it?  Pretty darn tasty!

But what's that I hear you say?  Who made it?  You want me to tell you who made the cake? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm…well that's a bit of a tricky one. You see…nobody made it!  There was just some flour, some sugar and some eggs lying around, and over a period of time they turned themselves into the cake you're eating now!

What d'you mean you don't believe me?! What d'you mean my answer makes no sense?! Look just calm down!  PLEASE, calm down and step away from the cake!  Don't do it!  PLEASE!  Think of my sweater.  My Nana knitted me this!  Pleeeeeease!

SSSPLAATTT!!!!!

Well, that served him right!  The idea that a cake could come into being without a chef is ridiculous.
Likewise, for us to assume that the universe, something far more complicated than anything Delia Smith could muster up, just came into existence without the help of some sort of creator, is completely illogical.  As a cake must have a chef, the universe must have a creator.

The question is, who is He?
"Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep.  To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.  Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?  He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not.  And He is the Most High, the Most Great". (Translation of the Quran: Chapter 2, verse 255.)

Muslims believe that the Creator of the universe and everything in it, is none other than Almighty Allah, the Eternal, Unique, Creator and Sustainer of all existence.  The God that every human being deep down knows is real.  He is the All-Seeing, the All-Hearing, All-Knowing, All-Wise Creator who has made us live, will make us die and will make us live again.

Almighty Allah has established mankind on the earth by way of test and trial, and has promised those who submit to His will, that they will have a never ending reward, eternity in the blessed gardens of paradise.
Likewise he has made a promise to those who do not submit to his will, those who are arrogant and spread corruption in the earth, that they will abide forever in the fire of hell, and worst indeed is that as a destination.

Islam in Arabic means submission to Allah, and it is the only religion or way of life which Allah will accept from mankind.  As Allah says in his final revelation to mankind, the Holy Quran, "And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers". (Translation of the Quran,: Chapter 3, 81-85.)

So come ye young or old, black or white, man or woman!  Let all who want to eat from the eternal feast (which incidentally is more delicious even than the above mentioned chocolate analogy cake!) join the righteous on the path of truth, the path of submission to God, the path of Islam.
